The Zircon MetalliScanner m40 is an electronic metal scanner that quickly and easily detects metal in a variety of non-metallic surfaces, including lath and plaster, wood, drywall, paneling, tile, stucco, plaster, and concrete. This metal detector is capable of locating ferrous (magnetic) metal up to 4 inches (100 mm) deep and non-ferrous (non-magnetic) metal up to 2 inches (50 mm) deep.
The m40 model from Zircon offers two scanning positions: Wide Scan and Pinpoint Scan. To begin using the device, simply install the included 9V alkaline battery. Hold the tool in the air, away from any metal, ensuring that the blue sensor is parallel to the surface being scanned. Press and hold the Power Button to calibrate the unit, and once you hear a beep and see the green "Ready" LED illuminated, the calibration is complete.
As you slowly slide the tool across the surface, the red LEDs will progressively light from the bottom up in both scanning modes, indicating the proximity of a metal object. The top lighted blue coil and an audio tone will signal the detection of a metal target.
